LOCATION: Prescott Public Library, Founders’ Suites A and B
SPEAKER: Dr. Laszlo Kestay, Director, Astrogeology Science Center, USGS
COMMENTS: Since 1879, the USGS’s Congressional mandate is to assess the natural resources our nation needs for its prosperity and security. This mandate extends to the Moon, Mars, and beyond – where we must utilize resources “in situ” rather than sourcing our needs from the Earth. The USGS is developing ways to provide reliable, unbiased, quantitative assessments of the natural resources on the surface of asteroids, Mars and the Moon. Dr. Kestay will discuss preliminary results of applying USGS assessment methods within our Solar System and show that there are abundant resources out there.
